Costa Rica Operation to Combat Violence Against Tourists

Authorities, in a mega-operation, made 36 arrests in tourist areas. Drugs, firearms and license plates were also seized in this fourth mega-operation of the year. Among the arrested were two individuals who assaulted a couple of tourists in Uvita de Osa. The police also captured the criminals responsible for threatening two people with a machete and robbing them of a cell phone and other items.

The operation was carried out in bus terminals, airports, roads, hotels, beaches, lakes, rivers, and volcanoes. Arrests were made for 13 crimes against property and 10 people with arrest warrants.

A drug dealer in Cartago was apprehended for assaulting police officers. 2.2 kilos of marijuana, 462 doses of crack, and 33 doses of cocaine were confiscated on a bus from Limon.

Additionally, 63 people in irregular migratory condition were brought to the General Directorate of Migration and Immigration. Furthermore, 33 drivers were fined and officers of the Public Force talked to 5,640 tourists about security issues.
